Hickey Named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Five Named to Scholar-Athlete Team

Valpo volleyball senior libero Emma Hickey (Granger, Ind./Penn) was honored for her stellar work both on the volleyball court and in the classroom Tuesday, as she was named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Hickey was joined by four of her teammates on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team.

On the court, Hickey was recognized as the MVC Libero of the Year and a First Team All-MVC performer this year. A five-time MVC Defensive Player of the Week this season, Hickey ranks 11th nationally with 5.06 digs/set. She is 17th in NCAA D-I history with 2,665 career digs, the active career leader in digs across all divisions.

In the classroom, Hickey carries a 3.936 GPA as a civil engineering major. A three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete Team honoree, Hickey has earned the MVC Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award, been named to the MVC Honor Roll and has been honored with Valpo Presidential Academic Honors. She is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, and has contributed to undergraduate research in civil engineering.
