High-Scoring Battle Gets Away from IUSB
SOUTH BEND — In a fast-paced, offensive showcase inside the Student Activities Center, IU South Bend displayed resilience to pull within seven for a 101-94 loss to Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon.
After a tough first half that saw the Titans trail 61-30 at the break, IU South Bend erupted in the second half with 64 points, shooting 58.5 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from three-point range. The offensive burst from the Titans nearly erased a 34-point LTU advantage but it was too little too late.
CJ Hornbeak led the Titans with 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-6 from deep. Hornbeak reached a career-high for points on Saturday in his fourth game as a Titan.
Kyle Olagbegi reached 20 points for the first time in his career, while adding six rebounds, and five assists. Collin Schmidt contributed 15 points and four assists for the Titans, as well. Ethan Hill and Andrew Hedgepeth each tallied eight points, and Chris Hurt chipped in seven off the bench.
IU South Bend outscored Lawrence Tech 46-30 in the paint, 21-5 in points off turnovers, and 20-10 in second-chance points, but the visitors caught fire from beyond the arc — knocking down 20-of-38 threes (52.6 percent) to stay in control.
The Titans will kick off CCAC play on Wednesday, playing host to IU Northwest at 7:30 pm.
