The Holy Cross College men’s basketball team put together a strong offensive performance but came up short in a 92–74 loss to Olivet Nazarene on Saturday evening inside McKenna Arena.
Holy Cross came out sharp, building a 10-point first-half lead and trading momentum with the visiting Tigers through an entertaining opening stretch. The Saints shot efficiently in the first half and stayed neck-and-neck with Olivet, trailing just 43–38 at the break after 6 ties and 5 lead changes.
Callaghan Weatherspoon led the Saints with 21 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting night, while Joey Garwood added 19 points and knocked down a pair of three-pointers. Jayden Sanders finished with 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Donovan Waleskowski chipped in 7 points and 3 rebounds. Donovan Mukes provided a boost off the bench with nine points.
Holy Cross shot 53.6 percent from the field in the second half and finished the game at 45.6 percent overall, moving the ball well and scoring 19 points off turnovers. The Saints also received solid contributions from their bench, which outscored Olivet’s reserves 14–6.
Olivet pulled away in the second half behind efficient shooting and strong rebounding, building its largest lead late in the game. Despite the final score, the Saints continued to compete on both ends, showing resilience against one of the conference’s top teams.
Holy Cross will look to carry the positives from Saturdays performance into the upcoming stretch of conference play as the season continues on Wednesday January 7th away at IU Northwest. Tipoff is set for 8PM.
