Notre Dame, Ind. The Holy Cross College men’s basketball team will begin their season on Halloween night, when they host East-West University in a non-conference matchup. The Saints will rely on eight returners and a talented recruiting class for their 2022-2023 season.
Holy Cross will be led by four returning seniors. Beau Ludwick returns for his fourth year in the program. The 6’2 guard started in 26 games last season while averaging 12.4 points per game and a team-best 5.6 rebounds. Mick Sullivan begins his second season with the the Saints. Last year, the 6’8 forwarded shot 56.5% from the field to go along with 10.9 points per game. Ryan Cartaino appeared in 29 games for Holy Cross last season, while averaging 6.5 points. Jalen Martin returns for his season year having missed the majority of last season with an injury.
Men’s basketball has one returning junior and one junior transfer. Donavan Ziaja begins his third year in the program after appearing in 12 games last season. Dewey Shannon begins his first season with the Saints after transferring from Lake Michigan College. The 6’6 forward averaging a double-double with 11.5 points and 10.5 rebounds for the Red Hawks last season.
The Saints return three sophomores for the upcoming season. Hunter Zezovski begins his second year, while appearing in 17 contests in his rookie season. Justin O’Neal and Nash Hostetler were both awarded to the CCAC All-Freshman team. O’Neal played in all 30 games while averaging 8.4 points. Hostetler started in 23 games and scored 9.2 points per game.
Holy Cross brings in nine freshmen in this recruiting class. Drew Adzia graduated from Crown Point High School. Asher Puhalski prepped at Schoolcraft High School in Michigan and begins his first year with the Saints. Benny Ogayonne graduated from Franklin Central High School before attending Indiana Elite Prep Academy last season. Bishop Chatard High School product, AJ Roseman, enters his freshman year. Joe Kelly comes to Holy Cross from Bishop Dwenger High School. Regional standouts Beau Barhams, Phil Robles II, Tommy Snyder, and Blayne Wilcox all begin their rookie campaigns.
The Holy Cross College men’s basketball team will start their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, November 9 when they host IU-South Bend.
