Men’s Tennis Take Home Two Championship Titles at Viking Invitational

The Holy Cross College Men’s Tennis team had a remarkable outing at the recent Viking Invitational at Cleveland State University, showcasing their talent on the court against some of the region’s top NCAA Division I Tennis programs.  The team returned home with impressive victories, including a thrilling championship matches.

In the singles competition, Perry Gregg (Chicago, IL) demonstrated exceptional resilience and skill. After dropping the first set to his opponent, Chappel from Cleveland State, Gregg rallied back to clinch the title with a final score of 2-6, 6-3, 10-6. His comeback not only highlighted his tenacity but also showcased his ability to perform under pressure, earning him the championship title.

The doubles team of Oscar Wai (Hong Kong, China) and Naithaolin Golmei (Tyler, TX) also had a standout performance. They faced tough competitors Ramesh and Fletcher from Bellarmine in the championship match, prevailing with a close score of 7-5. Their teamwork and strategic play were crucial in securing the victory, further solidifying Holy Cross College’s reputation in collegiate tennis.

    • Perry Gregg defeated Santiago Salazar Garza (Case Western) 6-2 3-6 10-8
    • Calvin Golmei defeated Tommy Griese (Cleveland State) 6-4 7-5
    • Ching Wah Wei defeated Noah Viste (IU Indianapolis) 6-3 6-4
    • Luca McManus lost to Patrick Joss (Butler) 6-3 6-3
    • Adam Singleton lost to Konrad Kwiatkowski (Case Western) 6-3 6-0 (in Back Draw)

    • Wei / Golmei defeated Martin / Saylor (Case Western) 6-2
