Mishawaka, Ind. — The Bethel University women’s basketball team improved to 4-1 on the season, overcoming a sluggish first half offensively to defeat the IU-Kokomo Cougars 74-62.
Katie Kinker scored 17 points for the Pilots going 3-6 from deep and 5-10 from the floor, while Nyla Asad added 14 points, shooting 6-8 from the floor and 2-2 from the three-point line.
The Pilots shut down the Cougar’s shooting, holding them to 6 for 20 from deep and only 38% from the floor as a team.
Bethel’s lead was just 5 points at the end of third quarter, 49-44, but the Pilots sizzled the nets in the fourth quarter, knocking down 7-10 shots from the field (70%) and making all nine of their charity tosses. Pilot freshman Mariah Claywell led Bethel with a team-high 10 rebounds.

Kinker and Asad were the top scorers combining for 31 of the 74 points for the Pilots.
The overcame 24 turnovers for the game.
Bethel shot 76% from the free throw line for the game (19-25).
