Girls & Boys Soccer Sectional Pairings Announced
Record number of girls teams entered; boys equal last year’s high mark
The pairings for the 30th Annual IHSAA Boys and Girls Soccer State Tournaments were drawn and announced this evening with 305 boys teams and 274 girls teams, both record numbers, set for competition next week.
The 274 girls teams top the previous high of 272 set last year and in 2019. The 305 boys teams equal last year’s record number.
Both tournaments mirror each other beginning with 16 sectionals in each of three classes running Oct. 2-7.
Regional semifinals will be played Oct. 11-12 with regional championships on Oct. 14. Semi-States are Saturday, Oct. 21 at four sites with the winners
advancing to the state championship matches on Oct. 27-28 at Michael Carroll Stadium at IUPUI in Indianapolis. Assignments will be made following the semi-state matches.
In the most recent Indiana Soccer Coaches Association poll, the two-time defending champion NoblesvilleMillers boys team is the top-ranked
team in Class 3A and will host Muncie Central in a Sectional 8 first-round match. In 2A, the No. 1 Mishawaka Marian Knights will play at No. 19 South Bend St. Joseph in Sectional 19. No. 2 Brebeuf Jesuit, the two-time defending champions, will face No. 11 Guerin Catholic in the
Sectional 26 opening match. And the Westview Warriors, the top team in Class 1A will tangle with Prairie Heights in the Sectional 36 opener played at Central Noble.
In the girls coaches poll, the Class 3A No. 1 Carmel Greyhounds girls team will host Indianapolis Crispus Attucks in the Sectional 10 opening match. The Class 2A top-ranked Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles drew a bye and will await the winner of the Brebeuf JesuitSpeedway match in Sectional 26. No. 7 Evansville Memorial, the two-time defending champs drew home-standing Heritage Hills in the Sectional 32 opener. And the Class 1A No. 1
Providence Pioneers will take on Austin in Sectional 46 at Trinity Lutheran. State tournament brackets, including dates and times for each match, will be uploaded later this week at IHSAA.org and MaxPreps.com
