Indiana, Maryland, Northwestern Score Weekly Men’s Soccer Awards

Hoosiers’ Fedrizzi, Terps’ Mack join Wildcats’ Volmar and O’Reilly with first weekly awards of 2025 season

 

ROSEMONT, Ill.  – The Big Ten Conference has announced its first Big Ten Men’s Soccer awards of the season, spanning games from August 21-25.

Offensive Player of the Week

Jacopo Fedrizzi, Indiana

Jr. – F – Giulia, Italy – Liceo Scientifico Giovani Marinelli

  • Totaled three goals, as No. 7 Indiana opened the season 1-0-1
  • Scored the game-tying goal in the81st minute of a 2-2 draw against No. 9 Clemson
  • Netted a brace with a pair of goals in a 3-2 win over San Francisco
  • Garners his first Offensive Player of the Week award
  • Last Indiana Offensive Player of the Week: Tommy Mihalic (Nov. 5, 2024)

Defensive Player of the Week 
Fritz Volmar, Northwestern

Jr. – D – Peoria, Ill. – Laurel Springs

  • Anchored a defensive effort that surrendered just one goal in a pair of victories
  • Played all 180 minutes for a defense that allowed just seven total shots in wins over Air Force and Eastern Illinois
  • Earns his first Defensive Player of the Week award
  • Last Northwestern Defensive Player of the Week: Jackson Weyman (Oct. 3, 2023)

 

Goalkeeper of the Week 
Laurin Mack ,Maryland

So. – Emmendingen, Germany – SC Freiburg

  • Recorded a career-best six save sin Maryland’s 1-0 win at No. 25 Georgetown
  • Earns his first Goalkeeper of the Week award

Freshman of the Week 

Aaron O’Reilly, Northwestern

Fr. – F – Naperville, Ill. – Naperville Central

  • Paired a goal and an assist as Northwestern opened the season with a pair of victories
  • Notched an assist in a 2-0 win over Eastern Illinois in his collegiate debut
  • Scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over Air Force
  • Earns his first Freshman of the Week award
