Indiana, Nebraska, Penn State and Wisconsin Earn Weekly Women’s Soccer Awards

Hoosiers’ Claudia Day, Huskers’ Aubrei Corder, Nittany Lions’ Kim Dubs and Badgers’ Dani Rhodes are this week’s honorees

 

Offensive Player of the Week

Dani Rhodes, Wisconsin

F – Jr. – Waukesha, Wis. – Waukesha West

• Scored both of Wisconsin’s goals last week as the Badgers earned a 1-1 draw with No. 12/14 Northwestern and defeated No. NR/22 Illinois, 1-0 in double overtime

• Connected on the game-tying goal in the 58th minute against Northwestern on Sept. 14, snapping the Wildcats’ school-record shutout streak at 668:42

• Netted the golden goal in the 104th minute of Sunday’s win over Illinois

• Also named the Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week on Tuesday

• Received Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2017-18

• Earns her second career Offensive Player of the Week award

• Last Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Week: Dani Rhodes (Sept. 5, 2017)

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Claudia Day, Indiana

D – Gr. – Birmingham, Ala. – Briarwood Christian

• Played every minute on the Indiana backline last week, helping the Hoosiers to a pair of Big Ten victories over Michigan and Michigan State

• Recorded a defensive save in each game, clearing a shot off the line in the 57th minute against UM and the 31st minute against MSU

• Added the tying goal in the 88th minute of an eventual 3-2 double-overtime win over Michigan on Sept. 13

• Garners her first career Defensive Player of the Week honor

• Last Indiana Defensive Player of the Week: Sarah L’Hommedieu (Aug. 30, 2016)

 

Goalkeeper of the Week

Aubrei Corder, Nebraska

GK – Jr. – Barboursville, W.Va. – Homeschooled

• Tended goal for every minute of Nebraska’s two Big Ten road games last week, a double-overtime draw at Rutgers and an overtime victory at Maryland

• Piled up seven saves on the week, including a season-high six stops in the 1-1 stalemate at RU on Sept. 14

• Recognized as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten honoree in 2017-18

• Receives her first career Goalkeeper of the Week accolade (was Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 25, 2016)

• Last Nebraska Goalkeeper of the Week: N/A (new award for 2018)

 

Freshman of the Week

Kim Dubs, Penn State

F – Zurich, Switzerland – Kunst Sportgymnasium Rämibühl

• Scored the opening goal and added an assist on the Nittany Lions’ second score in their win over Ohio State on Sept. 14

• Had a career-high three points in the victory, including her first career assist and second career goal

• Collects her first career Freshman of the Week award
