Indianapolis, Jewell, Truman Earn Weekly GLVC Football Honors

 

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis sophomore running back Al McKeller, William Jewell College junior linebacker Antonio Wabanimkee, and Truman State University sophomore return specialist Lawrence Woods, have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in football, it was announced by the league office Monday.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Al McKeller, Indianapolis
So., RB, Indianapolis, Indiana
Major: Criminal Justice
Team Result: 24-17 win at Missouri S&T

Amassed the second-highest rushing total in the GLVC this year with 166 yards on 30 carries

Scored the game-winning touchdown with 1:43 left in the Greyhounds’ comeback win

Became first Hound to garner at least 30 rushing attempts since UIndy all-time rushing leader Klay Fiechter got his number called 31 times versus Ashland in 2013 season opener

Reigning GLVC Freshman of the Year

Earns his second career Offensive Player of the Week award (9/4/17)

Last Indianapolis Offensive Player of the Week:  Malik Higgins (9/24/18)

 

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Antonio Wabanimkee, William Jewell

Major: Public Relations

Team Result: 14-10 win vs. Southwest Baptist

 

Recorded career highs with two sacks and 16 tackle-for-loss yards

Both sacks came in fourth quarter after Jewell reclaimed lead

Led team with nine tackles, including eight solo stops

Earns his first career Defensive Player of the Week award

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lawrence Woods, Truman State

Major: Communication

Team Result: 45-38 win at McKendree

Became the first Bulldog and GLVC standout to return three kickoffs for a touchdown in a season when he went 89 yards to tie Saturday’s game against McKendree at 38-38

Averaged 44.6 yards on five kickoff returns with 89, 54, and 30 yards being his final three returns

His 223 return yards was second all-time and just 10 yards shy of the school record, and three yards short of the GLVC single-game record of 226 by Spencer Elrod of Missouri S&T

Notched his fourth career return, matching the career Truman record held by Mike Laususe (1974-77) and the GLVC record held by William Jewell’s Anthony Mullins (2013-16)

Added a nine-yard reception in his debut on the offensive side of the ball

Earns his second career Special Teams Player of the Week award (9/24/18)
