Indianapolis, Missouri S&T Earn First Weekly Football Honors of 2017

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis freshman running back Al McKeller and junior linebacker Cole Sigmund, along with Missouri S&T sophomore placekicker Ben Styron, have garnered the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors for the 2017 football season, it was announced by the league office Monday.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Al McKeller, Indianapolis
Fr., RB, Indianapolis, Indiana

Team Result: 24-20 win vs. No. 2 Grand Valley State

Racked up 206 rushing yards on 21 carries in first collegiate game

Scored game-winning touchdown on a 51-yard rush with 3:43 to go

Amassed highest total by a Greyhound since 2008

Single-game mark is seventh-best in GLVC history

Earns his first Offensive Player of the Week award

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cole Sigmund, Indianapolis
Jr., LB, St. Louis, Missouri

Team Result: 24-20 win vs. No. 2 Grand Valley State

Led all players with 10 total tackles, including two for a loss

Spearheaded effort that held the Lakers, a team that averaged 40.3 ppg in 2016, to just 20 points – their lowest total since October 2014

Guided a defense that held GVSU scoreless for more than 42 game minutes during one stretch

Anchored a unit that limited 2016 NCAA DII leading rusher Marty Carter to just 57 rushing yards

Earns his first Defensive Player of the Week award

Accounted for 10 of Miners’ 16 points
