Iowa Again Sweeps Big Ten Weekly Women’s Basketball Awards

For second consecutive week, Hawkeyes’ Clark earns both conference honors

 

Player AND Freshman of the Week

Caitlin Clark, Iowa

Fr. – G – West Des Moines, Iowa – Dowling Catholic – Major: Undeclared

• Named the espnW National Player of the Week on Monday, the first Big Ten freshman ever to earn that honor

• Averaged 34.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game last week as Iowa split matchups with Iowa State (win) and at Big Ten foe Michigan State (loss)

• Tallied 34 points, seven rebounds and six assists in an 82-80 win over in-state rival Iowa State on Dec. 9, making the game-winning three-pointer with 22 seconds left

• Registered a career-high 35 points (her third 30-point outing in five games this season), along with seven rebounds and four assists, in an 86-82 loss at MSU on Dec. 12

• Earns the second Big Ten Player of the Week award of her career, becoming the first Big Ten freshman to receive the honor twice in her debut season since 2015-16, when Nebraska’s Jessica Shepard was selected twice

• Last Iowa Player of the Week: Caitlin Clark (Dec. 7, 2020)

• Collects the third Freshman of the Week award of her career

Big Ten Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll

Alyza Winston, So., G, MSU: Averaged 22.5 points per game with a .586 field-goal percentage and .526 three-point percentage last week, leading the Spartans to Big Ten wins over Minnesota and Iowa

Sam Haiby, Jr., G, NEB: Scored a career-high 33 points and added nine rebounds and four assists on Dec. 10 to pace the Huskers past Illinois in the Big Ten opener for both schools

Dorka Juhász, Jr., F, OSU: Tied her career high with 27 points (on 11-of-16 shooting) and grabbed a season-best 15 rebounds in the Buckeyes’ win over Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 10
