POSTGAME NOTES
No. 7/7 Penn State (4-0, 2-0) defeated No. 24/22 Iowa (3-1, 0-1), 31-0, on Saturday night inside Beaver Stadium.
The announced attendance of 110,830 is the eighth-largest road crowd Iowa has played in front of in program history. The figure is the second biggest in Penn State history.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
– Iowa’s three linebackers – Jay Higgins, Nick Jackson and Kyler Fisher – combined for 38 tackles in the game.
o Higgins finished with 18 tackles (10 in the first half), including 10 solo stops. It is his second game this season (and third of his career) finishing with 10 or more stops.
 Higgins’ 18 tackles are the most by a Hawkeye since Jack Campbell had 18 against Colorado State in 2021.
o Jackson had a season-high 13 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss. It is his first game with 10 or more tackles as a Hawkeye and 21st game in his career.
o Fisher had a career-high seven tackles.
– DL Ethan Hurkett had a career-high nine tackles. DL Yahya Black and DL Joe Evans both had career-highs with seven tackles.
– P Tory Taylor had a season-long 62-yard punt in the second quarter. Taylor punted seven times for 366 yards for a career-best 52.3 average.
MISCELLANEOUS
– Iowa was shut out for the first time since 2000.
– The Hawkeye defense finished with a season-high six tackles for loss, including a team-best 2.5 TFL for LB Nick Jackson.
– Iowa lost its first fumble of the season on its second possession. Penn State turned the turnover into three points – the first points an opponent has scored off a turnover this season.
– Penn State won the toss and deferred. The Hawkeyes have played 305 games under head coach Kirk Ferentz. Iowa has opened the game on offense 223 times (142-81). The Hawkeyes have opened the game on defense 82 times (47-35).
