Iowa Sweeps Big Ten Weekly Women’s Basketball Awards

Hawkeyes’ Clark earns both of this week’s conference honors

 

Player AND Freshman of the Week

Caitlin Clark, Iowa

G – West Des Moines, Iowa – Dowling Catholic – Major: Undeclared

• Averaged 26.5 points, 9.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game with a .480 field-goal percentage and a double-double last week, pacing the Hawkeyes to a pair of wins

• Registered 30 points and 13 assists in a Dec. 2 win at Drake, becoming the only NCAA Division I freshman since 2015-16 to have a 30-point, 10-assist game

• Recorded the most points by a Big Ten freshman in a single game since Jan. 31, 2016 (Michigan’s Hallie Thome – 31 vs. Minnesota) and most assists by a conference freshman in one game since Feb. 9, 2017 (Maryland’s Destiny Slocum – 13 vs. Illinois)

• Added 23 points and five assists on Dec. 5 to help Iowa defeat Wisconsin in its Big Ten opener and extend the Hawkeyes’ home winning streak to 38 games (the second-longest active string in the nation)

• Earns the first Big Ten Player of the Week award of her career

• Last Iowa Player of the Week: Kathleen Doyle (Jan. 13, 2020)

• Collects the second Freshman of the Week award of her career

• Last Iowa Freshman of the Week: Caitlin Clark (Nov. 30, 2020)

Big Ten Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll

Diamond Miller, So., G, MD: Scored a career-high 28 points (10-15 FG, career-high 5-7 3FG) in a Dec. 3 win over Towson, while adding nine rebounds and four assists in 23 minutes

Naz Hillmon, Jr., F, MICH: Averaged 19.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game with two double-doubles last week, helping the No. 24 Wolverines to wins at No. 23 Notre Dame and at home vs. Wright State

Jacy Sheldon, So., G, OSU: Tallied 18.0 ppg with a .765 field-goal percentage (13-17) and .556 three-point percentage (5-9) for No. 19/22 Ohio State in victories over Kent State and Northern Kentucky last week
