QUOTING BROCK SHEAHAN ON:

(Last weekend) “(The victory) was almost like a relief for the guys. For us (coaches) we have to keep getting better – it’s one game, we’ve won one hockey game. To me, it’s more frustrating because it shows how capable we are, and that we should be doing this more. For the guys, hopefully it reinforces what we are asking them to do. We’ve worked really hard in practice to up our standard, how hard we’re working, how fast we’re playing and competing. We’ve been good in practice for a while; it’s finally starting to bleed into games. … We are playing better hockey since we’ve been back from Christmas. … We have to continue to get better at our game.”

(Health update) “(Junior defenseman) Paul (Fischer) should be back, knock on wood. That should be a massive boost for our team. He’s been one of our best players, if not our best player all year. That should be huge for us. … Hopefully (junior center) Jayden Davis … we don’t know (his status). When he’s available and healthy, our lineup has been better. He knows what we’re doing, he executes, he competes at a very high level. He’s just had trouble staying healthy. He helps us on the 5-on-5 and the P-K (penalty kill).”

(Bowling Green) “I’m excited to be playing BG. When I was a player, we played them four times (a year). It’s always been a great rivalry. They are well-coached. They have a lot of older players, a lot of Major Junior guys. They look like they compete very hard. They are an aggressive team with a decent level of talent. It’s going to be a great challenge for us. They are doing very well as far as where they are in the NPI (the NCAA Power Index, which has the Falcons ranked No. 20), the (CCHA) standings and all that. For us, it’s about us. We’ve got to keep getting better at our game against a quality opponent. I love the home-and-home. It’s going to be a great environment. Our building, regardless of how we’ve been playing, has been a great environment. Our crowds, our students were awesome against Ohio State. I’m sure BG will be ready to rock when we’re there.”

NCAA POWER INDEX: The official system for selecting and seeding teams for the 16-team NCAA Tournament. … Here are the current Top 20 teams: 1. Michigan (Big Ten); 2. Michigan State (Big Ten); 3. North Dakota (NCHC); 4. Penn State (Big Ten); 5. Western Michigan (NCHC); 6. Minnesota Duluth (NCHC); 7. Providence (Hockey East); 8. Quinnipiac (ECAC); 9. Cornell (ECAC); 10. Wisconsin (Big Ten); 11. St. Thomas (CCHA); 12. Dartmouth (ECAC); 13. Denver (NCHC); 14. Boston College (Hockey East); 15. Connecticut (Hockey East); 16. Augustana (CCHA); 17. St. Cloud State (NCHC); 18. Minnesota State (CCHA); 19. Harvard (ECAC); 20. Bowling Green (CCHA). Others: 24. Michigan Tech (CCHA); 25. Bentley (Atlantic Hockey); 28. Long Island (Independent); 32. Ohio State (Big Ten); 41. Minnesota (Big Ten); 54. Notre Dame (Big Ten).
