CHICAGO, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (9-12, 7-3 CCAC) defeated the Roosevelt University Lakers (4-16, 3-7 CCAC) by scores of 19-25, 25-14, 28-26, 25-9. Tuesday night’s win brings the Titans within one game of fourth place in the CCAC, the minimum required to host a CCAC Tournament quarterfinal contest.

The Roosevelt Lakers were victorious in the first set thanks to five kills from CCAC Attacker of the Week nominee, Viktoria Marysheva.

Set two saw the Titans jump out to an early 4-1 lead thanks to back-to-back kills from Felisha Campanello. The IU South Bend lead grew as large as eleven points before Roosevelt rattled off three straight points to pull within eight. The Lakers brief rally came to a halt due to kills from hitters Amber Jacobs and Alexis Issette. The Titans prevailed in set two, 25-14.

Set three was the closest of the night, despite the Titans seven straight points to begin the set. Tied as late as 26-26, kills from Alexis Joyner and Felisha Campanello led IU South Bend to victory in set three, 28-26.

Set four was dominated by the Titans, seven consecutive points for IU South Bend forced a Roosevelt timeout, with the score 9-3 in favor of the Titans. The Lakers scored three of the next four points out of the timeout, only to score two more the entire set. Two different runs of at least five points helped propel the Titans to victory in set four, 25-9.

Abby Seeger led IU South Bend in kills with 15, while Alexis Joyner wasn’t far behind with 13 kills on a hitting percentage of .407. Setter McKenzie Powell posted yet another double-double with 41 assists and 12 digs. Amber Jacobs fell just short of double-double status with nine kills and 17 digs, tying her for the team high in digs with Suriya Van der Oord.

The IU South Bend Titans return to action on Tuesday, October 18th, at 7:00 PM, when they take on the Calumet College Crimson Wave in the Student Activities Center, a floor the Titans are yet to lose on.
