Hamilton nets goal for RedHawks

UPLAND, Ind. – Trevon Hamilton hit the back of the net for the Indiana University Northwest men’s soccer team, but Taylor scored a pair of goals late to escape with a 3-1 victory Wednesday evening in nonconference action.

The RedHawks drop 0-2-0 and return to play Saturday when they travel to Spring Arbor for a 5 p.m. kickoff.

Kyle Scott, who led IUN with seven shots had his first attempt in the third minute, but a Trojan defender got in the way. A few minutes later Hamilton’s first shot went wide, and then following a corner kick in the 25th minute the Ilwaco, Wash., native tallied his first goal of the season.

Devun Collins, meanwhile, did his best to keep the Trojans off the board making two saves through the first 20 minutes. However, five minutes before halftime Taylor snuck a goal past Collins to even the score.

The contest remained gridlocked at one all in the second half, but the RedHawks continued to fire shots at the Trojans keeper with six looks over a three-minute period. Collins, meanwhile, was doing his part as well as he made two more saves.

Then in the 80th minute, Taylor broke the tie and then two minutes later the Trojans scored again to put the contest away.

The RedHawks finished the match with 14 shots, while Collins made four saves.
