IUSB Baseball Sweeps Trinity Christian

GRANGER, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend Baseball (15-23, 11-11 CCAC) team swept the home doubleheader against Trinity Christian College (10-24, 6-16) to begin the weekend four-game CCAC series. The Titans won game one in a lopsided 10-0 fashion and won game two 7-2 behind some late runs and solid pitching.

Game 1 (W 10-0)
The Titans continued their winning ways, picking up where they left off on Tuesday, getting on the scoreboard earl,y and never looking back. IUSB scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning behind a Gabe Cortez RBI sacrifice fly and Josiah Nelson RBI single to get out to an early 2-0 lead. The Titans would add on three more runs in the bottom of the second inning on a Jack Ryan three-run home run, and added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning on a Clint Goodman RBI double and a TCC error to make it a 7-0 ballgame through the first three innings of play. The Titans would continue to pull away with another run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Joe Jefferson RBI single, and would tack on another two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Kaleb Farnham RBI single and another Gabe Cortez RBI sacrifice fly to give the Titans a 10-0 lead going into the final inning of play. The Titan pitching staff was dialed in, throwing their first shutout of the season. Adam Amodei opened the game, throwing the first two innings, giving up no runs on two hits and two strikeouts while earning the win. Josh McCormick picked up his second save of the season, throwing five innings and giving up no runs on two hits and five strikeouts.

Game 2 (W 7-2)
Game two of the doubleheader was more of a pitcher’s duel through the first seven innings of play. TCC got on the scoreboard first, scoring a single run in the top of the second inning to get out to an early 1-0 lead. The Titans were held scoreless until the fourth inning when Kaleb Farnham tied the game 1-1 with a home run to left field. TCC would respond immediately in the top of the fifth inning, scoring an unearned run to take a 2-1 lead. The Titans clawed their way back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to regain the lead 3-2 on a Braedon Leathed RBI double and a Jack Ryan RBI ground out. The Titans would extend their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kaleb Farnham hit his second home run of the game. IUSB got some insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring three runs to pull away 7-2 on a Drew Catron three RBI double. Starting pitcher Andrew Parker went the distance on the mound, throwing a complete game and earning the win in his nine innings of work, giving up two runs, one earned, on eight hits and three strikeouts.

The Titans return to action Saturday, April 12th, when they travel to TCC to complete the four-game series with a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 2pm ET.
