IUSB Men’s Basketball blasts CCSJ, 77-54

WHITING, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (7-7, 4-2 CCAC) defeated the Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson Wave (7-6, 2-4 CCAC) by a final score of 77-54.

The IU South Bend offense came out hot early in the first half, opening the game on a 10-2 run thanks to six points from Nick Mullen in that stretch.

Back and forth basketball through much of the first half, the Crimson Wave cut their deficit to just three points at 24-21 before the Titans went on a run of their own, outscoring CCSJ 14-5 in the last seven minutes of the second half, helping them take a 38-26 lead into halftime.

The Titans held on to the lead the whole second half, leading by as much as 25 in the period as they went on to beat the Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson Wave by a final score of 77-54.

The IU South Bend offense featured three players to score in double figures, led by forward Nick Mullen who finished with 25 points.

Mullen’s 25 points came on 80% shooting from the field (8-10) while also sinking eight of the nine free throws that he attempted and also blocking two shots.

The next Titan to score in double figures was senior guard Quentez Columbus who finished with 11 points.

Columbus’ 11 points came on better than 70% shooting from the field (5-7) while also tying a season high with seven assists.

The last Titan to score in double figures was senior forward Jylen Petty who finished with 10 points.

Petty knocked down three points field goals in the contest and also collected a season high 10 rebounds good for his first double-double of the season.

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Wednesday, January 8th, when they travel to Chicago, Ill., to take on the Cougars of Saint Xavier University at 8:00 PM ET.
