IUSB women roll past Grace in season opener

South Bend, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend women’s basketball team opened up their 2018-2019 season with a win over Grace College. The Titans earned a 77-58 win in their home opener on Wednesday night.

Kyleigh Kubik (JR/LaPorte, Indiana) led the Titans with a game high 23 points, shooting 7-10 from behind the arc. Taylor Wesley (JR/South Bend, Indiana) and Erin Guzicki (SR/Mishawaka, Indiana) each chipped in 12 points a piece.

The Titans quickly fell behind to the Lancers trailing 8-0 with 7:36 remaining in the first quarter. With 6:55 left in the quarter, Kylie Fehrman(SO/Griffith, Indiana) pulled down an offensive rebound and the put back was good for the first points of the game for the Titans. IU South Bend would gain the lead for good on a Rachel Robard layup midway thru the first quarter. The end of the first quarter was highlighted by a buzzer beating three pointer by Erin Guzicki.

The team would extend their lead to as many as 20 points in the second quarter, and would take a 45-34 lead into the locker room at half time.

In the second half, the Titans would lead by as many as 23 points. Courtney Haynes (SO/Marion, Indiana) finished the game with a team high eight rebounds, while Taitlyn Trenshaw (SO/Nappanee, Indiana) finished with six assists and three steals. The Titans led in nearly every statistical category, finishing with an impressive 51.7% shooting percentage from behing the three point line.

The Titans will host Spring Arbor University on Saturday, October 27th in the Student Activities Center. Tip off is set for 1:00 p.m. E.T.
