IUSB Women’s Basketball Outlast Fighting Bees to win at home

SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (13-2, 6-2 CCAC) defeated the Saint Ambrose University Fighting Bees (5-10, 3-5 CCAC) by a final score of 65-62 to remain in second place in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Titans jumped out to a commanding 17-6 lead halfway through the first quarter in Saturday’s conference affair before Saint Ambrose answered with a 7-0 run to cut their deficit to 17-13.

The second quarter proved to be the lowest scoring period of the contest with the Titans edging out the Fighting Bees 12-11 to take a 35-30 lead heading into halftime.

The third quarter belonged to Saint Ambrose as they scored the first five points of the period to tie the game at 35-35. The Fighting Bees outscored IUSB 13-10 for the remainder of the period to take a 48-45 lead heading into the final quarter.

IU South Bend scored the first seven points of the final quarter to regain their lead at 52-48. The game would go back and forth through the fourth quarter with the Titans trailing as late as the 2:30 mark before closing the game on a 9-5 run to go home with a narrow 65-62 victory over Saint Ambrose University.

The IU South Bend offense was led by their usual duo with Jazmen Watts leading the way with 16 points while Tenleigh Phelps finished just behind with 13 points.

Watts’ 16 points came with help from two made three points field goals and a perfect 6-6 shooting from the free throw line while Phelps’ 13 points came on four made field goals, five made free throws as she also added seven rebounds to her stat line.

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Wednesday, January 15th, when they host the Judson University Eagles at 5:30 PM ET in the Student Activities Center.
