Jason Freeman Tabbed to Lead Bethel Women’s Soccer in 2020
MISHAWAKA – Bethel Athletic Director Tony Natali has announced that Jason Freeman has accepted the position of Bethel Women’s Soccer Interim Head Coach.
“Jason will do a great job in being a Pastor-Coach to our women’s soccer team and continuing to develop their soccer abilities,” stated Natali. “Our goal, as with all of our teams, is to give our student-athletes a great experience. I have great confidence in Jason. He is very excited to lead our women’s soccer program.”
Freeman had been on the coaching staff for the Bethel Men’s Soccer program since coming to Mishawaka in 2017 as a Graduate Assistant under Men’s Soccer Head Coach Thiago Pinto. The Apex, North Carolina native also works as the General Manager for Soccer Zone and is heavily involved in the Junior Irish Soccer Club as a Facility Manager, Assistant Director of Coaching, and Club Coach.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to lead the women’s soccer program,” confirmed Freeman. “I am humbled by the responsibility to play a small part in God’s story. We are looking forward to a great season this fall! Go Pilots!”
Freeman holds a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Appalachian State and earned his Master of Business Administration from Bethel in 2019. While this will be his first post at a collegiate head coaching level, Freeman has previous head coaching experience at the prep level with a one-year stop with Watauga High School Boys’ Soccer in Boone, North Carolina, along with over seven years of Club coaching experience at various stops.
Asked why he coaches, Freeman responded, “Coaching is a process and platform to leave a lasting impact on the lives of people, to develop future leaders, and to point people to Jesus using sport as its means.” Freeman and his wife, Rachel, along with their daughter Grace, reside in South Bend.
Freeman takes over a program that returns fifteen players from a season ago—including NCCAA North Central All-Region performer Madison Byers and NAIA Scholar Athletes Nicole Fosnough and Lian Glomski—and welcomes seven newcomers. He will make his head coaching as Bethel Women’s Soccer opens their season on Saturday at Morey Field against Grace at 2:00 pm. Freeman is in the process of assembling a coaching staff.
