John Overmyer to receive Distinguished Media Service Award
A recognizable broadcast voice, educator, and media content producer, John Overmyer of Broadcastsport.net, is the recipient of the 2023-24 IHSAA Distinguished Media Service Award for District 1.
Overmyer’s contributions to education-based athletics will be recognized Thursday evening in South Bend when the Clay Colonials host the Riley
Wildcats in boys basketball. IHSAA Commissioner Paul Neidig and Sports Information Director Jason Wille will make the presentation.

Overmyer is currently the co-owner and lead broadcaster for Broadcastsport.net, an online, digital streaming company based in northern Indiana with a
primary focus on area high school teams in football, basketball, and wrestling.Since founding the company in 2004, Overmyer has broadcast hundreds of high school sporting events in the South Bend area, many IHSAA state tournaments, as well as several Little League Softball World Series.
He is also currently the Sports Information Director at Clay High School, where he is responsible for all the school’s athletic media content. Overmyer has
also taught broadcasting classes in the South Bend Community School Corporation and Elkhart since 1999.

Previously, Overmyer was the Sports Director at WCOE-FM in LaPorte and at WLRX in Nappanee. He was the recipient of the Forest “Woody” Miller Media Award handed out by the South Bend Schools in 2012 for excellence in media. Overmyer also has two former students who currently
work for his company.

Overmyer, 59, is a 1982 graduate of John Adams High School in South Bend and a 1986 graduate of Ball State University where he earned his degree in Telecommunications.
He and his wife, Pam, have one adult child, Josh, who works part-time for his dad’s company and is a licensed IHSAA sports official.

This is the 37th year the IHSAA has recognized outstanding members of the Indiana news media from each of its three legislative districts for excellence in the coverage of high school sports. District 1 covers 22 counties across northern Indiana.
