Kearns, Grein tabbed as Louisville Slugger/Wilson DI weekly honorees

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Idaho State’s Jenna Kearns and Oregon’s Lyndsey Grein were tabbed Division I Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for contests played April 14-20. It marks the second honor this season for Grein.

Over four games last week, Kearns batted .643 with three doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI, and six runs scored. She slugged 1.500 and was perfect defensively behind the plate, throwing out the only runner attempting to steal and cleanly handling all 14 chances. Kearns set a Big Sky and program single-game record with a seven-RBI performance in the opening game of a series sweep of Montana. Her performance over the weekend helped the Bengals clinch the Big Sky regular season title.

Grein recorded 13.1 scoreless innings and picked up three wins, including two against then-No.. 6 UCLA, in four appearances last week. She twirled a three-hit shutout with three punchouts and two walks in a five-inning series-clinching victory over the Bruins. Grein scattered five hits and fanned eight in a game-one start versus UCLA. For the week, she struck out 18, walked five, and scattered nine hits, eight of which were singles. Grein has yet to allow a run against a top-25 opponent this season.

The NFCA Division votes on the awards, the Top 25 Poll Committee, which features one member head coach from each of the NCAA’s 31 conferences.
