WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
Brownstown Central (28-4): Chase Coomer recorded 15 points to guide the top-ranked Braves to their first state crown with a 55-36 decision over No. 2 Wapahani in the Class 2A title affair.
Fishers (29-1): JonAnthony Hall racked up 23 points as the No. 1 Tigers picked up their first state crown with a 65-56 triumph over No. 8 and defending Class 4A state champion Indianapolis Ben Davis.
Fort Wayne Canterbury (19-9): John Parent poured in 22 points to help the Cavaliers claim their first state championship with a 48-41 victory over No. 8 Bethesda Christian in the Class 1A finale.
Scottsburg (25-5): Jack Miller poured in 32 points to guide the No. 4 Warriors to their first state championship with a 67-57 win against Saint Joseph in the Class 3A final.
SECOND BEST
Bethesda Christian (23-8): Cooper Jackson came up with nine points for the Patriots against Fort Wayne Canterbury.
Indianapolis Ben Davis (23-6): Ramone Enis added 11 points as the Giants saw their run as state chams come to an end against Fishers.
Saint Joseph (20-10): Jerry Barca closed out his high school career with 12 points for the Huskies against Scottsburg and was also the recipient of the prestigious mental attitude award for Class 3A.
Wapahani (26-3): Isaac Andrews finished with 21 points for the Raiders against Brownstown Central.
FINAL SENATIONAL SEVEN
- Saint Joseph (20-10): The Huskies made it back to the state finals for the first time since 1993 and earned their first (Class 3A) state runner-up finish.
- Mishawaka (20-8): The Cavemen claimed their second straight Class 4A sectional crown and first regional title since 1955.
- Warsaw (19-6): The Tigers picked up their first Class 4A sectional title since 2017.
- Riley (21-5): The Wildcats earned a share of the Northern Indiana Conference crown and posted their best record since going 26-1 in the 2017-18 campaign.
- Marian (17-9): The No. 9 (Class 3A) Knights used a 13-game winning streak to pick up a part of the NIC championship.
- Concord (18-5): The Minutemen registered their best finish since going 19-2 in the 2012-13 season and claimed a share of the Northern Lakes Conference title
- Penn (18-7): Despite graduating all five starters, including Mr. Basketball winner Marcus Burton, the Kingsmen still managed to make it to the Class 4A Elkhart sectional title game for the fourth straight year.
HONORABLE MENTION
Clay (13-11): In their final campaign before the school closes in June, the Colonials recorded their first winning record since going 14-9 in the 2012-13 campaign.
Glenn (13-14): The Falcons soared to their second straight Class 3A sectional title.
Jimtown (13-11): The Jimmies posted their best finish since going 17-8 in the 2019-20 season.
Northridge (18-6): The Raiders have now won at least 13 games for eight straight years.
NorthWood (15-9): The defending Class 3A state champion Panthers have now posted double-digit wins for 14 consecutive seasons.
MATT’S MATCHUPS – FINAL
A 2-2 (50 percent) mark in the state finals left me with a final overall record of 320-105, which was good for 75 percent for the 2023-24 campaign.
