MATT’S MATCHUPS 2020-21 HOOPS – WEEK FIVE

More progress took place as I went 16-3 (84 percent) last week. My overall record is now 54-13, which improves me to 81 percent for the season.

TUESDAY

Adams (5-0) vs. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger (2-2) (11 a.m. at Carroll Shootout): Brayden Saxton poured in 13 points in the No. 8 (Class 4A) Eagles’ 69-52 win over LaPorte. Hayden Smithey had 19 points in the Saints’ 69-66 loss to Marion. Matt’s pick: Adams 69, Bishop Dwenger 54.

Adams (6-0) vs. Carroll (Fort Wayne) (6-0) (5 p.m. at Carroll Shootout) :The Chargers marched past Adams, 65-58, during the 2018-19 season. Chuck Worsham was limited to one point in the Eagles’ win over LaPorte. Jalen Jackson tallied 16 points in Carroll’s 55-35 win over Fort Wayne Wayne. Matt’s pick: Carroll 72. Adams 66.

Bremen (3-1) at Central Noble (5-1): The No. 10 (Class 2A) Cougars eliminated Bremen from the 2020 state tournament with a 60-57 win in the sectional semifinals. Dawson Hickman registered four points in the Lions’ 46-33 win over LaVille. Connor Essegian recorded 32 points in Central Noble’s 68-56 win over DeKalb. Matt’s pick: Central Noble 51, Bremen 41.

Clay (0-5) at NorthWood (5-1): The Colonials suffered a 65-50 loss to NorthWood a year ago. Kylan Perry scored 10 points in Clay’s 59-46 loss at Morgan Township. Ben Vincent contributed seven points in the Panthers’ 42-32 win at Plymouth. Matt’s pick: NorthWood 63, Clay 50.

Fairfield (1-4) at Goshen (1-4): The RedHawks edged Fairfield, 50-45, a season ago. Anders Revoir tallied nine points in the Falcons’ 57-33 loss to Jimtown. Blak Wiess chipped in eight points in Goshen’s 56-53 overtime win over Clay. Matt’s pick: Goshen 46, Fairfield 38.

Jimtown (1-3) at Saint Joseph (3-2): The No. 8 (Class 3A) Indians cruised to a 68-49 win against Jimtown last season. Johntu Reed’s nine points lifted the Jimmies over Fairfield. Will Terry accounted for 16 points in Saint Joseph’s 81-7

Plymouth (0-6) at Riley (5-1): The Wildcats clawed their way to a 55-36 win over Plymouth last year. Seth Mills finished with two points in the Pilgrims’ 60-40 loss to Triton. Davyion Anderson came up with two points in Riley’s 79-75 overtime win over Fort Wayne Snider. Matt’s pick: Riley 73, Plymouth 54.

Wawasee (2-1) at Columbia City (2-3): The Warriors earned a 58-52 win against Columbia City in their last meeting. Mason Passell had eight points in Wawasee’s 63-48 loss to Warsaw.  Mason Baker recorded 16 points in the Eagles’ 53-47 loss to Glenn. Matt’s pick: Columbia City 55, Wawasee 46.

WEDNESDAY

Warsaw (5-3) at Valparaiso (3-1): The Tigers roared to a 43=40 win over Valparaiso in the 2019-20 campaign. Jaxon Gould scored 14 points in Warsaw’s 48-32 win over Portage. Mason Jones added 16 points in the Vikings’ 78-69 loss to Elkhart. Matt’s pick: Valparaiso 61, Warsaw 57.
