MATT’S MATCHUPS 2025-26 HOOPS – WEEK THREE

Things turned out pretty average as I went 21-8 (72 percent) last week. My overall record is now 26-9, which is good for 74 percent.

TUESDAY

Adams (2-0) at Berrien Springs (1-1): The Eagles soared to a 53-45 win over Berrien Springs in their only other meeting. Josh Johnson’s 14 points lifted Adams to a 77-73 win over Merrillville. The Shamrocks got into the win column with a 50-48 decision over Hopkins. Matt’s pick: Adams 66, Berrien Springs 62.

Bremen (2-0) at Plymouth (1-2): The Pilgrims slipped past Bremen, 51-45, last season. Riley Tener recorded six points in the Lions’ 46-30 win over North Miami. Grayson Terrone’s 11 points were not enough in Plymouth’s 60-44 loss to LaPorte. Matt’s pick: Bremen 47, Plymouth 40.

Fort Wayne Blackhawk (3-0) at Penn (1-1): Bryce LaCross poured in 25 points in the Braves’ 86-73 win over Fort Wayne North. Lucas Obermeyer ended with eight points in the Kingsmen’s 59-55 loss to Crown Point. Matt’s pick: Fort Wayne Blackhawk 58, Penn 54.

Goshen (2-0) at Elkhart (1-1): The RedHawks flew past Elkhart, 55-43, a year ago. Karter Marcum contributed 13 points in Goshen’s 85-51 win over Washington. Mickey Gilbert’s four points helped the Lions to a 70-62 win over Concord. Matt’s pick: Goshen 62, Elkhart 53.

Marquette Catholic (1-1) at Saint Joseph (0-2): The defending Class 3A state champion Huskies clawed past Marquette Catholic, 77-62, a season ago. Nate Bakota canned eight points in the Blazers’ 64-57 win over New Prairie. Ryder Place was limited to four points in Saint Joseph’s 78-71 loss to Indianapolis Cathedral. Matt’s pick: Saint Joseph 69, Marquette Catholic 61.

Mishawaka (1-1) at Marian (1-2): The Knights crowned Mishawaka, 54-26, last year. Trea Echols is averaging 5.5 points a contest for the Cavemen. Jonah McGuire mustered four points in Marian’s 71-51 win over Fort Wayne Bishop Luers. Matt’s pick: Marian 54, Mishawaka 43.

WEDNESDAY

Columbia City (2-0) at Wawasee (2-2): The Warriors are looking to make amends for a 64-40 loss to Columbia City last season. Ian St. John accounted for 31 points in the Eagles’ 73-63 win over Peru. Grayson Lashley chipped in three points in Wawasee’s 45-33 win over West Noble. Matt’s pick: Columbia City 51, Wawasee 43.

West Noble (1-2) at Concord (0-2): The Minutemen claimed a 39-25 win over West Noble last year. Ryan Glick’s three points were not enough for the Chargers against West Noble. Bo Brunner canned 11 points in Concord’ 79-66 loss to Angola. Matt’s pick: Concord 54, West Noble 41.

THURSDAY

NorthWood (2-0) at Westview (3-1): The Panthers posted a 67-50 win over Westview a year ago. Mason Pearson recorded seven points in NorthWood’s 58-47 win over Triton. Daniel Yoder registered 10 points in the Warriors’ 62-18 win over Churubusco. Matt’s pick: NorthWood 64, Westview 60.

Plymouth (1-2) at Saint Joseph (1-2): The Pilgrims suffered a 93-62 loss to Saint Joseph in their last matchup. Hudson Davis was limited to one point in Plymouth’s 64-43 loss to Bremen. Le’Bralyn Booker amassed six points in the Huskies’ 85-37 win over Marquette Catholic. Matt’s pick: Saint Joseph 77, Plymouth 58.

Victory Christian (6-1) at Adams (3-0): The Eagles recorded a 65-46 win over Victory Christian during the 2024-25 season. Gavin Whitaker racked up 28 points in the Lions’ 68-64 win over Heritage Christian. Dion Taylor mustered three points in Adams’ 78-37 win over Berrien Springs. Matt’s pick: Adams 67, Victory Christian 50.

FRIDAY

Concord (1-2) at Penn (2-1): The Kingsmen registered a 46-40 victory against Concord last year. JJ Lee came up with two points in the Minutemen’s 61-49 win over West Noble. Mi’Kell Burton knocked down five free throws in Penn’s 67-52 win over No. 4 (Class 3A) Fort Wayne Blackhawk. Matt’s pick: Penn 64, Concord 53.

New Prairie (1-3) at Jimtown (2-1): The Jimmies managed a 58-27 win over New Prairie a season ago. Dalton Clark finished with four points in the Cougars’ 57-37 loss to LaPorte. Zander Whitaker ended with five points in Jimtown’s 69-66 loss to Culver Academy. Matt’s pick: Jimtown 52, New Prairie 45.

SATURDAY

Brownsburg (5-1) vs. Northridge (4-0) (Grace College): Brandon Addison netted 12 points in the Bulldogs’ 68-46 win over No. 6 (Class 1A) Liberty Christian. Hayden Johnson notched 20 points in the No. 11 (Class 4A) Raiders’ 57-44 win over Valparaiso. Matt’s pick: Northridge 59, Brownsburg 56.

Career Academy (1-2) at Marian (2-2): The Knights crowned Career Academy, 73-39, a year ago. Davion Mitchell paced the Trailblazers with 12 points in a 77-44 loss to Jimtown. Brandon Foster totaled two points in Marian’s 72-59 win over Mishawaka. Matt’s pick: Marian 79, Career Academy 52.

Elkhart (1-2) at Angola (5-0): Alanzo Newbern chipped in nine points in the Lions’ 53-51 loss to Goshen. Tommy Caswell wound up with six points in the Hornets’ 74-48 win over Woodlan. Matt’s pick: Angola 60, Elkhart 50.

Fairfield (3-0) at NorthWood (2-1): The No. 10 (Class 3A) Panthers clawed past Fairfield, 66-40, a season ago. Brant Garber amassed 12 points in the Falcons’ 44-41 win over Lakeland. Collin Edwards closed with three points in NorthWood’s 66-58 loss to Westview. Matt’s pick: NorthWood 48, Fairfield 45.

Fort Wayne Blackhawk (3-1) vs. Warsaw (0-2) (Grace College): The Tigers posted a 71-58 win over No. 4 (Class 3A) Blackhawk during the 2009-10 campaign. Drake Sefton contributed seven points for the Braves against Penn. Drew Jones recorded 11 points in Warsaw’s 60-51 loss to Huntington North. Matt’s pick: Fort Wayne Blackhawk 64, Warsaw 57.

Homestead (3-0) vs. Riley (2-0) (Grace College): The No. 10 Spartans cruised past Riley, 90-69, in the 2015 Class 4A semistate final. Mack Welker accounted for 31 points and 13 rebounds in Homestead’s 48-37 win at Warsaw. Tree Johnson finished with 13 points and five rebounds in the Wildcats’ 84-31 win against Indianapolis Tindley. Matt’s pick: Homestead 71, Riley 65.

LaPorte (3-1) at Washington (1-1): The Panthers slipped by LaPorte, 66-63, last season. Sawyer Tonagel poured in 15 points for the Slicers against New Prairie. Jaydon Lineberry mustered two points for Washington against Goshen. Matt’s pick: LaPorte 61, Washington 54.

Wawasee (2-3) at Whitko (1-2): The Warriors slipped past Whitko, 53-49, in their last meeting. Jack Shoemaker ended with eight points in Wawasee’s 43-36 loss to Columbia City. Ethan Yates registered 14 points in the Wildcats’ 65-46 loss to Heritage. Matt’s pick: Wawasee 47, Whitko 40.
