Hanover Central (4-5) at Lowell (7-2): The No. 12 Red Devils downed Hanover Central, 35-20, on September 12. Isaiah Buikema ran 12 times for 80 yards with two scores in the Wildcats’ 42-0 win over Hammond Central. Tymothy James was held to 14 carries for 57 yards and one catch for 11 yards in Lowell’s 19-3 loss to No. 5 (Class 2A) Andrean. Matt’s pick: Lowell 35, Hanover Central 18.
Highland (2-7) at East Chicago Central (3-6): The Trojans marched past East Chicago Central, 56-6, in the 2023 sectional quarterfinals. Aaron McCormick went 9-of-22 for 71 yards in Highland’s 74-0 loss to Hobart. Derion Morris rambled 18 times for 281 yards with five touchdowns, caught a 50-yard pass, and threw a pass for a score in the Cardinals’ 58-20 win over Lake Station. Kankakee Valley (1-8) at Gary West (4-4): The Kougars clawed past Gary West, 37-22, in the 2023 sectional opener. Jaidyn Anderson had a one-yard touchdown run in Kankakee Valley’s 17-14 loss to Munster. Marcell Dixon completed 3-of-8 for 89 yards with a touchdown and ran six times for 82 yards with another score in the Cougars’ 36-0 win over Calumet. Matt’s pick: Gary West 32, Kankakee Valley 26.
New Prairie (3-6) at Hobart (7-2): The Cougars slipped by Hobart, 15-14, in last year’s sectional semifinals. Ethan Mechling racked up six tackles and a quarterback sack in New Prairie’s 44-35 win over Washington. Aidan Kasch had two rushes for 54 yards with a touchdown for the Brickies against Highland. Plymouth (3-6) at Washington (2-7) (Everwise School Field): The Panthers pulled away for a 43-28 win against Plymouth in the 2023 sectional quarterfinals. Davis Jones tallied two receptions for 36 yards with a score in the Rockies’ 45-14 loss to No. 6 (Class 5A) Concord. Jaydon Lineberry hauled in 11 passes for 262 yards with three touchdowns for Washington against New Prairie. Matt’s pick: Plymouth 36, Washington 31.
Mishawaka (8-1) at NorthWood (5-4): The No. 2 Cavemen edged NorthWood, 26-25, on September 12. Ethan Flowers had a one-yard touchdown run in Mishawaka’s 36-14 win over Wawasee. Brady Weaver finished with five rushes for 44 yards with a score and four catches for 33 yards in the Panthers’ 49-24 win over Goshen. Matt’s pick: Mishawaka 28, NorthWood 20.
Wawasee (1-8) at Northridge (2-7): The Raiders cruised to a 42-7 win over Wawasee on October 3. Johnny Zachary raced 12 times for 36 yards with a score for the Warriors against Mishawaka. Trevion Fedele amassed 182 total yards, good for three touchdowns, in the Wildcats’ 25-17 win over Marian. Ryan Ruskowski recorded 12 tackles for Saint Joseph in a 38-6 loss to No. 5 (Class 6A) Penn. Marian (2-7) at River Forest (4-5): The Knights blanked River Forest, 40-0, during the 1966 campaign. Oliver Sager converted a 21-yard field goal for Marian against Riley.
