GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen College athletic department and head softball coach Juliaclare Plezbert announced the addition of pitcher and outfielder Ellie Van Heerde to its 2020 recruiting class on Tuesday.
Van Heerde comes to GC from Corona, California, in Riverside County. She played at Santiago High School, where she was undefeated in the pitching circle with a 16-0 record, and for the So Cal Choppers club.
“Ellie was a hard-working player for our organization and an outstanding teammate,” said Choppers coach Rick. “Her positive attitude was infectious and made everyone around her better. She has good control of her spin in the circle and command of all her pitches. She is a great player and a wonderful person of high character.”
Ellie comes to Goshen to study special education with a future goal of helping those in need. She is the daughter of Jeremy and Susie Van Heerde and the sister of Madison.
“I chose Goshen because it felt like home when I was on the visit,” Van Heerde said. “I fit right in with everyone. Coach P helped me along with that and helped me through my process because she believed in me.”
Meet the Maple Leafs will continue throughout the summer.
