Men’s Tennis Defeated by Indiana Wesleyan

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern’s men’s tennis team fell to no. 25 Indiana Wesleyan Thursday afternoon by a score of 5-0 as the match was determined after the initial five results.

The Wildcats jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage following doubles play by sweeping all three matches. Pedro Bahnuik and Aaron Skingley did their best to fend off IWU at the no. 3 spot, but were defeated in a match-high 13 games.

In singles competition, Felipe Barbosa nearly finished his opponent off in the second slot, but the match was clinched by Indiana Wesleyan what seemed like seconds before Barbosa would have been named the victor. The sophomore was the best competitor for the Fire on the day, winning his first set 6-4 and leading the second 5-4 before the match was called.

Bahnuik and Lucca Marcheschi each led their second sets after dropping the opening frames. Bahnuik had a 4-3 lead at no. 5, while Marcheschi held a 2-1 advantage in the top singles spot.

However, the Wildcats ended the match with triumphs over SEU at no. 3 and no. 4 singles, securing their fifth point in as many attempts.

The Fire will continue their homestand with a match against Missouri Baptist on Monday at the Edgewood Tennis Center. Matches are scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
