Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin Earn Big Ten Weekly Women’s Soccer Honors

Spartans’ Kozal and Wickes, Buckeyes’ Barnett and Fischer, and Badgers’ Howard capture this week’s conference awards

Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Jordyn Wickes, Michigan State

So. – F – Brunswick, Ohio – Brunswick – Major: Engineering

• Recorded four points (one goal, two assists) last week in Michigan State’s road conference wins at No. 6 Penn State and Maryland

• Factored into both Spartan tallies in a 2-1 victory at PSU on Sept. 29, scoring what proved to be the match-winning goal in the 70th minute 

• Helped MSU earn its first win over a top-10 opponent in more than a decade and its first-ever road victory at Penn State

• Collects her first career Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award

Defensive Player of the Week

Talani Barnett, Ohio State

• Went the distance on the Ohio State backline in both of the Buckeyes’ shutout wins last week against Indiana and sixth-ranked Penn State

• Helped extend OSU’s shutout streak to four consecutive matches, while the Buckeyes captured back-to-back series wins over Penn State for the first time in program history

• Secures her second career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award

Goalkeeper of the Week

Lauren Kozal, Michigan State

RS-Sr. – Ada, Mich. – Forest Hills Northern – Graduate Program: Sport, Coaching & Leadership Administration

• Picked up two victories and a shutout while making a combined eight saves in goal during Michigan State’s two wins last week

• Recorded seven saves in a Sept. 29 win at No. 6 Penn State, the Spartans’ first top-10 victory in more than a decade

• Needed just one save in Sunday’s win at Maryland to pick up her eighth shutout of the season

• Three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2019, 2020, 2021) and two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (2019, 2020)

• Earns her fourth career Goalkeeper of the Week honor

• Scored the tying goal in the Sept. 29 win over Maryland, then assisted on the winning tally in Sunday’s victory over Minnesota, helping the Badgers remain atop the Big Ten standings with 15 points (5-0-0 record)
