Cougars’ standout is sixth All-Star from Greenfield or Greenfield-Central
Braylon Mullins has earned the top individual award in Indiana high school boys’ basketball.
A 6-6 guard from Greenfield-Central High School, Mullins has been named IndyStar Indiana Mr. Basketball for 2025 in online voting of media and boys’ varsity coaches conducted by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and All-Star game director Mike Broughton, it was announced Sunday (April 27).
The Mr. Basketball result means Mullins will wear the No. 1 jersey for the Indiana All-Stars in their annual series with Kentucky. The Mr. Basketball award goes to the top boys’ basketball senior in the state. The Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball awards are part of the IndyStar Indiana All-Star program that dates to 1939. The Miss Basketball award, along with the girls All-Stars, was added to the All-Star program in 1976.
Maya Makalusky of Hamilton Southeastern was announced as the 2025 IndyStar Indiana Miss Basketball on March 19. The complete 2025 Boys’ All-Star team was announced April 4. The complete 2025 Girls’ All-Star team was announced March 14. The 2025 boys’ Junior All-Stars were announced March 28. The 2025 girls’ Junior All-Stars were announced March 9.
Mullins earned the boys’ top honor after being named on 182 ballots submitted to Broughton in voting that ran from March 21 to April 1. Tre Singleton of Jeffersonville was runner-up with 65 votes. Azavier Robinson of Lawrence North placed third with 49 votes, and Dezmon Briscoe of Indianapolis Crispus Attucks was fourth with 15 votes. Ten other players received at least one vote for Mr. Basketball. There were 344 votes cast overall.
A University of Connecticut signee, Mullins is the first Mr. Basketball winner from Greenfield-Central and the sixth Indiana All-Star from Greenfield or Greenfield-Central. Mike Edwards was a 1969 All-Star from the old Greenfield High School, while John Hamilton Jr. was a 2000 All-Star from Greenfield-Central. Past girls’ All-Stars from Greenfield-Central were Beth Davis in 1988, Janet Meeker in 1989 and Madison Wise in 2017.
Mullins averaged 32.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 3.7 steals and 1.1 blocks in leading the Cougars to a 23-4 record and the championship of the Hoosier Heritage Conference at 7-0 as a senior. He also converted 65.0 percent of his field goals (312 of 480), 47.6 percent of his 3-pointers (88 of 185) and 87.9 percent of his free throws (175 of 199).
For his career, he totaled a GC-record 2,158 points (22.0) as well as 546 rebounds (5.6), 285 assists (2.9), 278 steals (2.8) and 76 blocks (0.7) for teams that posted a cumulative 83-15 ledger. In 98 career games, he hit 58.5 percent from the field (766 of 1,309), 44.3 percent from distance (246 of 555) and 83.8 percent from the line (388 of 463). Mullins holds additional school record for points in a game (52 vs. Martinsville on Feb. 22, 2025), points in a season (887 as a senior) and career 3-pointers (246). He also stands eighth on school lists for career rebounds (537) and career assists (282).
A 2025 McDonald’s All-American, 2025 Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year and 2025 MaxPreps Indiana Player of the Year, Mullins averaged 11.2 points and 3.3 rebounds as a freshman, 16.9 points and 5.2 rebounds as a sophomore, and 25.0 points and 6.2 rebounds as a junior. He also posted seven double-doubles in his career — two as a junior and five as a senior.
His career single-game bests are the GC-record 52 points against Martinsville as a senior, 16 rebounds against Yorktown as a senior, seven assists against Richmond as a freshman and Delta as a sophomore, eight steals against Martinsville as a junior and five blocks against Avon as a sophomore.
In going to Connecticut, Mullins is the first Mr. Basketball but third player to wear an Indiana #1 jersey and fifth player overall to join the Huskies. UConn-bound Miss Basketball honorees were Kennitra Johnson of New Albany in 1999 and Ayanna Patterson of Homestead in 2022. Other All-Stars who went to UConn were Cassie Kerns of Valparaiso in 2005 and Kelly Faris of Heritage Christian in 2009.
While in high school, Mullins was voted 2025 AP first-team All-State, 2024 AP second-team All-State, two-time IBCA Supreme 15 All-State, 2023 IBCA Large School All-State and MVP of the Hall of Fame Classic in December 2024. He also was voted a three-time all-HHC honoree as well as a three-time first-team all-Hancock County selection and a two-time Hancock County Player of the Year by the Greenfield Daily Reporter.
Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball traditionally wear No. 1 jerseys for the respective Indiana Boys All-Stars and Indiana Girls All-Stars in the annual series with Kentucky. The All-Stars will face the Indiana Junior All-Stars in an exhibition doubleheader on June 4 at Greenfield-Central High School. The All-Stars follow with their home-and-home doubleheaders with Kentucky — June 6 at Lexington Catholic High School and June 7 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
