MVNU’s Stewart Honored as Crossroads League SID of the Year

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League announced on Monday that Alex Stewart of Mount Vernon Nazarene University had been named its 2022-2023 Sports Information Director of the Year. The award is the first for Stewart and the MVNU Sports Information Department.

“I am honored to receive this award. I truly believe that the Crossroads League has the best group of SID’s in the country and to be voted as the Sports Information Director of the Year by my peers means a lot to me,” said Stewart. “I would like to thank Graduate Assistants Braden Mast and Kaitlin Meade for all their hard work and help throughout the year. I would like to thank Chip Wilson for believing in me and giving me the room to grow and execute my vision. I would like to thank the student-athletes as well. Without them, none of this is possible. It is a pleasure to be able to promote their accomplishments and give them the platform that they deserve for all the hours and hard work that they all put in. And lastly, I would like to thank Coach Short and my MVNU basketball family for the constant support and encouragement over the past three years.”

Stewart graduated from MVNU in 2017 and then worked two years as a Sports Information Graduate Assistant for the Cougars prior to taking over the lead role where he has served the past three years, while also working on the women’s basketball team’s coaching staff.

During the 2022-2023 year, Stewart and his department posted over 550 articles to MVNUCougars.com and made over 1,000 posts on the MVNU social media network. In addition to those tasks, Stewart spearheaded MVNU’s website redesign and assisted with MVNU”s athletic rebrand.

Stewart and his staff closed the busy 2022-2023 year by hosting the Crossroads League Softball Tournament, providing outstanding coverage for all 10 games throughout the four-day event.

“I am very proud of Alex for this accomplishment,” remarked MVNU Athletics Director Chip Wilson. “The SID world is challenging and demanding, and I am thankful for his continued hard work and effort to serve our student-athletes and entire Athletic Department at MVNU. He is continuing to improve and learn and I have seen tremendous growth in him this year. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.”

The Crossroads League Sports Information Director-of-the-Year award was voted on by Sports Information Directors from the Crossroads League.
