Nebraska, Northwestern and Ohio State Earn Weekly Women’s Soccer Awards

Huskers’ Faith Carter, Wildcats’ Mackenzie Wood and Buckeyes’ Devon Kerr and Izzy Rodriguez are this week’s honorees

 

Offensive Player of the Week

Faith Carter, Nebraska

F – Sr. – Omaha, Neb. – Omaha Marian

• Scored three goals in a span of 15:40 to help Nebraska rally from a 3-1 deficit to top Indiana, 4-3 in overtime on Sept. 20

• Netted goals in the 76th, 83rd and 91st minutes, the last a golden goal 58 seconds into overtime to secure the victory

• Posted the 34th hat trick in program history and first since Sept. 23, 2016 (Jaycie Johnson at Ohio State)

• Earns her first career Offensive Player of the Week award

• Last Nebraska Offensive Player of the Week: Haley Hanson (Oct. 17, 2017)

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Izzy Rodriguez, Ohio State

D – So. – Canton, Mich. – Salem

• Started and played every minute in Ohio State’s two Big Ten road wins last weekend at Illinois (2-0) and No. 21 Northwestern (1-0 in overtime)

• Scored the game-winning goal at NU on Sunday afternoon, converting a free kick as time expired in overtime

• Her golden goal at Northwestern was also her first career score

• Garners her first career Defensive Player of the Week honor

• Last Ohio State Defensive Player of the Week: Devon Kerr (Oct. 3, 2017)

 

Goalkeeper of the Week

Devon Kerr, Ohio State

GK – Sr. – Barrie, Ontario – Bill Crothers Secondary

• Went the distance for Ohio State in goal last weekend, pacing the Buckeyes to conference shutout wins at Illinois and Northwestern

• Registered a combined 12 saves in the two OSU victories, including a season-high eight stops in the win at Illinois on Sept. 20

• Two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree in 2016-17 and 2017-18

• Receives her first career Goalkeeper of the Week accolade (was a two-time Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 26 & Oct. 3, 2017)

• Last Ohio State Goalkeeper of the Week: N/A (new award for 2018)

 

Freshman of the Week

Mackenzie Wood, Northwestern

GK – Granger, Ind. – Penn

• Played every minute in the Wildcats’ goal at home last weekend, making a combined 12 saves and allowing just one goal in 190 minutes of action

• Shut out No. 20/18 Penn State on Sept. 20, registering six saves to help Northwestern earn its first win over PSU since Nov. 15, 2014 (Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals at West Lafayette, Ind.) and post the Wildcats’ first regular-season victory over the Nittany Lions since Oct. 16, 1998, in Evanston

• Collects her second career Freshman of the Week award
