NFF National Scholar-Athletes in the NFL (Week 8)

A total of 42 former NFF National Scholar-Athletes and Campbell Trophy® Finalists earned spots on NFL rosters this year, continuing to distinguish themselves as some of the most impactful players at the next level. Click here for a full list and see below for recent highlights.

CAMPBELL TROPHY WINNERS HIGHLIGHTS

BO NIX (Oregon, 2023) – Denver Broncos QB
Nix threw four touchdown passes in the Broncos’ 44-24 win over Dallas during their Week 8 game. Making his 25th career start, Nix has now accounted for 52 total touchdowns with only 18 turnovers. Nix is one of seven quarterbacks in NFL history to record at least 50 touchdowns with fewer than 20 turnovers in their first 25 starts. This season, Nix ranks seventh in the NFL in passing yards (1,830). The 6-2 Broncos sit atop the AFC West.

JACK CAMPBELL (Iowa, 2022) – Detroit Lions LB
Campbell is tied for 11th in the NFL with 64 tackles this season, establishing himself among the league’s elite tacklers. He has three sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He led the team with eight total tackles in a 24-9 win over Tampa Bay last week. The 5-2 Lions had a Week 8 bye and are ranked second in the NFC North.

CHARLIE KOLAR (Iowa State, 2021) – Baltimore Ravens TE
Kolar caught a 10-yard touchdown pass this weekend in a key 30-16 win against the Chicago Bears. He has four receptions for 42 yards and one touchdown this season for the 2-5 Ravens.

JUSTIN HERBERT (Oregon, 2019) – Los Angeles Chargers QB
Herbert leads the NFL in passing with 2,140 yards this season. This week, he passed for 227 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-10 rout of the Vikings at SoFi Stadium. The Chargers improved to 5-3 on the season, ranking second in the AFC West standings.

CAMPBELL TROPHY FINALISTS HIGHLIGHTS

JAXSON DART (Ole Miss, 2024) – New York Giants QB
Dart has started five games this season, passing for 984 yards and rushing for 195. He has 12 touchdowns (8 passing and 4 rushing) and has helped rejuvenate the 2-6 Giants.

DILLON GABRIEL (Oregon, 2024) – Cleveland Browns QB
Gabriel has started four games for the Browns, passing for 702 yards and five touchdowns. The Browns are 2-6 on the season.

LADD McCONKEY (Georgia, 2023) – Los Angeles Chargers WR
McConkey has posted 468 receiving yards, ranking him 22nd in the NFL this season. He has caught three TD passes from his teammate and 2019 Campbell Trophy® recipient Justin Herbert. He had six catches for 88 yards, including a 21-yard score in this week’s home victory against the Vikings.

AIDAN HUTCHINSON (Michigan, 2021) – Detroit Lions DE
Hutchinson, who has become one of the most dominant defenders in the NFL, has recorded 16 total tackles, including six sacks, this season. Playing alongside 2022 Campbell Trophy® recipient Jack Campbell, Hutchinson has led the Lions to a 5-2 start, ranking second in the NFC North.

DRUE TRANQUILL (Notre Dame, 2018) – Kansas City Chiefs LB
Tranquill has 37 tackles on the season, including two sacks. The Chiefs are 5-3 in the AFC West. Tranquill has 508 career tackles through Week 8 of his seventh year in the NFL.

BRAXTON BERRIOS (Miami-FL, 2017) – Houston Texans WR
Berrios, who was sidelined for the first five games of the season, had five receptions for 38 yards in a 26-15 home win for the Texans this past weekend. The Texans are 3-4 in the AFC South.
