MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The Bethel Pilots (2-0-0) started the Fall Classic with a 4-2 win over the Governors State Jaguars (0-2-0), with Piero Sabroso nearly scoring a hat trick in the 2023 home opener.

It was a chippy matchup at Morey Field, with the Jaguars collecting three yellow cards and multiple fouls.

Piero Sabroso scored in the 18th minute after cutting twice to beat two defenders in the box off a pass by Tim Noeding to put the first goal on the board.

Two minutes later, Sabroso was back to battling defenders in the box before he trickled in his second goal and nearly had a hat trick not too far after.

Julian Vargas Talamantes scored his first goal of the season in the 42nd minute after he recovered a deflection by the keeper and punched it through for the match’s third goal.

Thiago dos Santos scored the Pilots’ fourth goal on the edge of the box with a rocket to the back of the net.

The Jaguars fought back by causing commotion in the box to make room for Dylan Villa to disrupt the shutout in the 75th minute.

In the 76th minute, Governors State passed out to Andre Croce on the outside of the box to net the Jaguars’ second goal.
