MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The No. 12 Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s volleyball team (19-7, 10-4 CL) hosted No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan University (20-4, 13-1 CL) in Ariel Arena on Wednesday, October 22.
MVNU started the top 15 matchup strong, taking the first set 25-21. The Lady Cougars controlled the opening set from the beginning, leading from start to finish. In set two, MVNU stayed hot, jumping out to a 14-8 lead. IWU flipped the switch, chipping away at the Lady Cougar lead. The Wildcats took a 23-22 lead late. MVNU responded with a 3-0 run to take set two 25-23. In the third set, MVNU led from the start and never let up. The Lady Cougars won by a score of 25-18, securing the historic sweep of the Wildcats in Ariel Arena.
Entering the match, MVNU had not beaten IWU since October 1, 2022, in five sets in Ariel Arena. The result also marked the first time IWU has been swept since 2022, and it was the Wildcats first regular season loss to a conference opponent in 52 matches (55 matches counting postseason play).
Morgan Schlabach led MVNU with 16 kills. The freshman hit .382 and had six digs and two service aces. Faith Maloney had 12 kills while hitting .391 on the night. She added six digs, a block and an assist. Reagan Nuss had 32 assists and four digs. Jaelyn Tang had 14 digs, two assists and a service ace in the win.
