INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The #13 Bethel Pilots (12-5-2) hit the road to Indianapolis as the fifth-seed, taking on the fourth-seeded (RV) Marian Knights (13-3-3) for the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinal and lost 3-2 after losing a 2-0 lead in the second half.

Andres Lucumi broke the 0-0 tie in the 31st minute from a double-assist by Piero Sabroso (1) and Jona Toussaint (4) with Lucumi’s first goal this season and went into the first half up 1-0.

It only took six minutes into the second half for Manuel Garcia to net his sixth goal this season and grow the lead to 2-0.

The Knights answered in the 58th minute with a goal by Sebastian Gonzalez to break the clean sheet 2-1, and MU had another opportunity in the 62nd minute that missed wide.

Marian lined up for a corner in the 80th minute and found Samuel Wehaus to tie the game 2-2. Then, after a high miss in the 84th minute, Josh Wesseling hit the dagger to win 3-2 in the 86th minute.

With an opportunity to tie and go to overtime, Manuel Garcia was blocked with seconds to go, and the Pilots fate was sealed.

Bethel awaits their potential at-large bid for the NAIA National Championship from Nov. 21-23 and see if the Pilots host or if they will be on the road for the First and Second Round. You can watch the NAIA Men’s Soccer Selection Show for free here on Nov. 16 at 3 p.m.
