No. 17 Marian Claims Win over Taylor

INDIANAPOLIS – The RV Taylor women’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Crossroads League foe No. 17 Marian on Wednesday night.

With the game inching closer to overtime, the Knights (8-3-2, 3-1-1 CL) pushed an 84th minute goal into the back of the net. With the victory, Marian now has 10 points in the league standings and have won three matches in a row.

The Knights’ strong defense was able to keep the pressure on TU (9-3-2, 2-3 CL) all night and limited the visitors to only six shots, tying the squad’s second-lowest shot output of the season.

Senior Bailey Zehr led the offense with three shots and had two on-frame. Senior Emily Calvani, junior Hannah Davis and sophomore Jourdan Lehman each contributed an attempt. Zehr has three-or-more shot attempts in five matches this year.

It took the Purple and Gold over 15 minutes to take a shot, while the Knights had four by that point. TU tightened its defense and allowed Marian to take nine more shots over the next 75 minutes of action.

Sophomore Megan Williams totaled five saves for the match, increasing her season total to 56. The keeper now has five matches this season with five-or-more saves.

Taylor remains on the road and visits Saint Francis (4-6-4, 0-4-1 CL) on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. match.
