No. 18 Trojans Upended at Spring Arbor
SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – A frustrating afternoon for No. 18 Taylor resulted in a five-set loss at Spring Arbor on Saturday, as the Trojans could not fight off the upset-minded Cougars in a 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-10 affair.
Taylor posted 11 more kills than Spring Arbor (12-16, 5-10 CL) in the match and had 13 more digs than the hosts but did not hit over .200 in any of the five games and ended the day with a season-worst 37 hitting errors.
Ryan Czerniak and Grace Isaacs turned in strong matches, with Czerniak posting 19 kills and a .300 percentage and Isaacs ending with 11 kills in 18 swings for a .500 clip. Isaacs also added six blocks to lead the Trojans. The rest of the squad struggled throughout however, combining for 33 kills, 28 errors and a .043 percentage.
Kacy Bragg posted 49 assists and 15 digs for a double-double and Stephaney Fifield ended at 26 digs, six assists and two service aces. Nikki Parrett and Karli Ware also bolstered the back row with a combined 25 digs.
No. 18 Taylor (24-5, 12-3 CL) will play its final road match of the regular season on Wednesday, October 20 against No. 22 Indiana Wesleyan (17-3, 12-3 CL) at 7:00 pm.
