KEMPF’S CAREER-BEST 48 SAVES HELP IRISH TO 2-2 TIE AND SHOOTOUT WIN AT BOWLING GREEN

By John Fineran When it comes time to praise Notre Dame goaltender Nicholas Kempf, first-year hockey coach Brock Sheahan has been his biggest fan most of this long season. Saturday night as Notre Dame made its way back home following its 2-2 tie and 1-0 shootout victory at Bowling Green, Sheahan was quick and to the point in praising his sophomore from Morton Grove, Ill. “Nick played at a very high level tonight,” said Sheahan after Kempf made a career-high 48 saves – 39 in regulation and nine more in overtime – and then stopped six of the eight shots directed his way during the eight-round shootout that followed, a couple of them after he suffered a cut on his right...

Grace’s 36.9-percent shooting performance was also the team’s lowest of the season by over 11 percent....

Despite a more competitive second half, the Saints were unable to overcome the deficit as...
