Phelps Paces Titans in Win

ELGIN, Ill. – An offensive showcase was displayed on Thursday night, as IU South Bend took down Judson 79-61 on the road to improve to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in CCAC play. The Titans never trailed, using a fast start and steady execution on both ends to secure their fourth-straight victory.

IU South Bend shot 51.6 percent from the field and nearly 43 percent from three, while holding Judson to just 32.4 percent shooting and 4-for-26 from beyond the arc. The Titans kept the Eagles off balance for four quarters, forcing contested jumpers and limiting clean perimeter looks throughout the night.

Senior forward Tenleigh Phelps was unstoppable early and consistent throughout, finishing with 23 points, eight rebounds, and six assists on an ultra-efficient 9-of-13 shooting. She scored 15 in the first quarter alone — matching Judson’s entire team — without missing a shot, helping the Titans build a 23-15 lead after 10 minutes and maintain control for the rest of the way.

Three other Titans joined Phelps in double figures including Aubrie Booker at 18, Keylee Hudson at 15, and Ava Grant at 10. Bradie Chambers contributed six points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a steady two-way effort, while Sydney Jerrells added four points and four assists.

IU South Bend piled up 24 assists on 32 made baskets, moving the ball side-to-side and repeatedly finding the open shooter or cutter. The Titans also turned 18 Judson turnovers into 17 points.

The Eagles shot just 15.4 percent from three and never strung together the sustained scoring needed to threaten IUSB’s lead. IU South Bend’s defense held Judson to 11 points or fewer in two of the four quarters, preventing any push.

After taking a 38-26 lead into halftime, the Titans exploded for another 23-point quarter, shooting 66.7 percent in the period and stretching the advantage to as many as 21. Booker scored nine in the quarter, Grant buried a three, and Phelps continued to dissect the defense with touches in the high post and precision passing.

From there, IU South Bend controlled the pace, maintaining a comfortable double-digit margin the rest of the way.

IU South Bend is set to return to play on Saturday at Holy Cross at 1:00 pm.
