Pilots sweep Maple Leafs to earn first-ever post season opportunity

MISHAWAKA, Ind. –The Bethel Pilots (13-12, 7-6) defeated the Goshen College Maple Leafs (4-19, 1-12) in three straight sets on Tuesday night in the Goodman Gymnasium.

Lucas Nascimento hit a season high for digs in a single game (eleven).

Jacob Massey posted five blocks, trumping his previous record of three against Roosevelt (Mar. 18).

McGwire Eigenrauch was a force behind the service line, recording a new season record for aces (three).

Pablo Tello also hit a new season high for aces (two).

In the opening set of the evening, McGwire Eigenrauch aced the Maple Leafs to put the first Bethel point on the board (1-0).

The Pilots gained a significant seven-point lead early on (9-2).

Santana Roybal-Benson and Ling Pak Him scored back-to-back kills as Bethel led 18-9.

Ling Pak Him scored the final kill of the set, as Bethel concluded the first with a ten-point lead, 25-15.

In the second set, Santana Roybal-Benson scored the first kill for either team (1-0).

The Pilots earned a consecutive three points early on, with Pablo Tello scoring a kill, followed by a service ace from Thomas Dunkley.

Ling Pak Him finished the run with a kill, as Bethel led 8-4.

The Pilots showcased consistent hitting as they neared the second of the set. Pablo Tello scored two kills, while Santana Roybal-Benson added one to grant the Pilots a 25-18 victory.

In the final set, Pablo Tello posted the first earned point for Bethel with an ace (3-1).

The Pilots recorded an impressive six-point run, ending at 18-10 with a kill by Santana Roybal-Benson.

Jacob Massey secured the game for Bethel 25-13 with a kill, assisted by McGwire Eigenrauch.

The Pilots will next compete against No. 10 Cornerstone University in Mol Arena on Friday, April 4 at 7:00 pm.
