PNW Student-Athletes Shine Academically For Spring Semester

HAMMOND, Ind. & WESTVILLE, Ind. – The Purdue Northwest student-athletes shined in the classroom again with the recent release of the 2018 Spring Semester Academic report.  Over 200 student-athletes combined to average a collective grade point average (GPA) of 3.21.

Two-thirds of all Pride student-athletes (67 percent) posted a 3.0 GPA or higher for the Spring semester, while a stellar 24 earned a perfect 4.0.  Leading the way was the Purdue Northwest women’s basketball team, which posted a program record 3.82 team GPA.

“Our student-athletes continue to live up to our department motto of ‘Students First, Athletes Second’ and I’m so proud of their commitment to academics,” said Rick Costello, PNW Director of Athletics.  “Our coaches and staff should also be commended for their efforts assisting our student-athletes and teams.  It was another big year in the classroom for the Pride!”

In total, 11 of PNW’s 13 varsity athletic teams attained a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.  In addition to women’s basketball, the Purdue Northwest women’s tennis (3.66), men’s tennis (3.50), women’s soccer (3.44), and the men’s golf and women’s golf teams (tied with 3.35) rounded out the Top 5 squads.  The Pride women’s soccer team also set a program record with its 3.44 team GPA.
