COACH JACKSON ON … (The Sharks) “Long Island is no different than Alaska. They bring in a lot of transfers (seven), a little older. They play a pretty patient game through the neutral zone. … (LIU coach Brett Riley) took a leap of faith going to Long Island. That program was unestablished, a brand-new program. He’s done a good job in building it up to where they should be conference-ready. … They have one of our former volunteer assistants with them in Will Messa. He knows us really well.”

(Notre Dame) “I was disappointed about Saturday. … That’s two Saturdays in a row which I didn’t think we had the same jam as we did on Friday night. … I think it’s a mental thing where we have to be a little more focused. We were on our heels a little bit because we took that five-minute major in the first period, another area which is too much of a reminder of last season. We controlled the game after the first period but we couldn’t score.”

(Bad penalties) Notre Dame was whistled for 11 penalties totaling 49 minutes, including a five-minute major for cross checking by defenseman Ryan Helliwell: “The discipline piece is going to be a pet peeve for me. I’m not going to let our discipline slip this year. I thought last year I let it slip a little, and I thought we paid a price for it in the second half of the year.”

(Team health) “We expect to have (sophomore center) Jayden Davis back (from an ankle injury suffered against U.S. Under-18 team) and he will center (fourth) line.”
