Rhonehouse Shines, Purdue Northwest Women Fall to Ferris State, 94-68
HAMMOND, Ind. – Sophomore Shae Rhonehouse (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) posted game-highs of 17 points and six assists, but it was not enough as Purdue Northwest fell to visiting Ferris State University (Mich.), 94-68, Thursday evening in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women’s basketball action on John Friend Court at the Fitness & Recreation Center in Hammond, Ind.  The Pride struggled to take care of the basketball committing 24 turnovers in the game, 21 coming off steals by the Bulldogs.

Freshman Lanie Allen (East Noble, Ind./East Noble) also scored in double figures for PNW coming off the bench to contribute 13 points.  Junior Michaela Kikendall (Morristown, Ind./Morristown) and freshman Danielle Nennig (Wrightstown, Wis./Wrightstown) each chipped in nine points for the Pride.

The two teams traded buckets in the early minutes of the first quarter with a jumper by Rhonehouse tying the game at 8-8 with six minutes left in the period.  However, Ferris State got hot over the final five minutes of the frame and built a 23-15 advantage to start the second quarter.  Another jumper by Rhonehouse early in the new period trimmed the deficit to six, 23-17, but the Bulldogs continued to extend their lead going ahead as many as 13 points before settling for a 45-36 halftime lead.

The Pride continued to fall behind early in the third quarter with FSU pushing its lead to 16 points, 62-46, midway through the frame.  A strong finish to the quarter put the Bulldogs up big, 79-54, heading into the final period.  PNW never got closer than 24 points the rest of the game.

Purdue Northwest (2-13 overall/1-9 GLIAC) hosts Lake Superior State University in a GLIAC match-up on Saturday, January 20, at the H.D. Kesling Gymnasium in the James B. Dworkin Student Services & Activities Complex in Westville, Ind.  The conference game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. CT start.
