Second Half Onslaught Gives TU Comfortable Victory

UPLAND, Ind. – The Trojans (10-3) posted 59 points in the second half of their 95-50 triumph over Oakland City (0-6) on Saturday. The TU squad grabbed its fourth 40-point victory of the season, while extending its winning streak to four straight.

A narrow halftime lead for the Trojans of six points, ballooned to 33 after scoring 35 points in the third quarter alone. Taylor began connecting from long range, sinking eight triples at a 57.1 percent rate.

Merideth Deckard was on fire from beyond the arc, netting eight three-pointers on the day. The junior came up one trey shy of the single-game program record with the impressive shooting total. Deckard recorded a career-high with 24 points to go along with her personal best field goals made and three-pointers made of eight.

The offensive attack continued in the fourth quarter, as the Purple and Gold hit another six threes and eight total field goals. TU shared the ball well, handing out eight assists to go with each made basket in the period.

All 13 Trojans logged a point and a rebound in the afternoon win. Lauren James surpassed 10 points for the 10th time this season with 13 points and three triples. Madisyn Fischer added 10 points of her own, including six rebounds and a block.

Kiara Nieto led the rebounding effort with seven boards and five offensive rebounds. As a team, TU nabbed 20 offensive boards, leading to 17 second chance points.

Taylor made 20 treys on the day, coming within three of the program record set last season. The Trojans took 54 attempts from beyond the arc, converting at a 37.0 percent-clip.

TU is scheduled to return to Crossroads League play at home on January 6 against Bethel (4-6, 0-3 CL) at 7:00 pm.
