SEU Men’s Track wins First Sun Conference Championship

SAVANNAH, Ga.—In its first season of competition, Southeastern won The Sun Conference Men’s Track and Field Championship held at Ted Wright Stadium in Savannah.
The Fire totaled 218 points, distancing itself by 49 points over second place St. Thomas and over 100 points beyond Keiser.
Kyle Manuel was named the Field Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Won the shot put by almost two meters, won the discus by almost nine meters, was third in the javelin, and fourth in the hammer.
Giovanni Allen won the hammer throw, beating out teammate Andy Labrada for the top spot
Darin Garland was the top finisher in the long jump at 6.76 meters with teammate Ray Pierre third, also receiving all-conference honors. Garland also won the 400 Meter Dash in 49.08 with Jonathan Moulton second.
Christopher Pinedo earned all-conference recognition in the Men’s 5,000 and 10,000, winning the 5,000 in 17:04 and was second in 34:56.03 in the 10,000.
Davonte Vanterpool was second in the 400 Meter Hurdles in 55.96 and was third in the 110 Hurdles in a time of 15.01, earning all-conference recognition in both events.
Trey Alford was second in the 100 Meter Dash in 10.90, and ran a leg of the victorious 4×400 Meter Relay, which also featured Moulton, Garland, and Vanterpool.
Nick Dodson was voted as the conference Coach of the Year.
