OKLAHOMA CITY—The Fire women’s golf team was on the bubble of missing the cut to advance to the third round of the NAIA National Championship to start the day.
Southeastern responded by dropping 13 shots from their team score and posting a program-best round of 303 to move up six spots to safely make the final field of 17.
That also marked the fifth-lowest score of the day as SEU recorded 10 birdies as a team on a windy day.
Leading the way was sophomore Ashlynn Joyner, who set a school-record for lowest 18-hole score with a three-under 69. Joyner made the turn at two-under, carding four of her five birdies on the front 9, and was one-under on the back with a birdie on the Par 3 10th.
Joyner was also the biggest mover in the field, jumping up 60 places after dropping 10 shots from her Round 1 score, and is now tied for 18th.
Valentina Espinosa had the second-best round of the day on the roster with a 77. She and Ana Uribe are tied for 60th after 36 holes. Uribe finished the day with a seven-over 79.
Brooke Wetzel signed off on an 78 after making the turn at one-over. Brianna Farrell rounded out the lineup with a score of 81.
The Fire are just eight shots outside the top 10 in the team standings. British Columbia leads Keiser by three, with SCAD Savannah three shots behind Keiser.
Southeastern will begin the third round, teeing off on Hole 10 at 8:22 a.m. with Texas Wesleyan and William Penn.
