Shutout Streak Ends as Trojans Drop Conference-Opener

UPLAND, Ind. – TU women’s soccer lost its first match of the season, as the Trojans’ shutout-streak ended at seven while dropping their conference-opener by a score of 1-0 at Mount Vernon Nazarene (4-4).

Play was fairly even and clean for the majority of the match, with the two teams totaling a mere 14 fouls. At the end of the first half, the Trojans and Cougars were even at three shots, one of which, however, had an effect on the scoreboard.

With just under five minutes remaining before intermission, MNVU became the first team to score a goal on the Trojans thus far in the 2021 campaign. After nearly 675 minutes of perfect play, Taylor goalie, Hannah Brackenbury, allowed her first goal of the season. Brackenbury, who leads the nation with seven shutouts and was recently named the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week, simply revealed herself to be human.

MNVU went into half up 1-0, and one goal proved to be all that was needed. The Cougars maintained control of the match, totaling 12 shots, four of which landed on frame while Taylor only managed to send one shot on goal.

For the Trojans, Erin Teevans, AC Hardy, and Claire Massey each took two shots throughout the match, but none could find its way into the net. After seven-consecutive shutouts to begin the year, TU lost its first game of the year in an unfortunate reversal.

The Trojans (7-1) will be back in action on Wednesday, September 29, as they continue conference play by taking on Huntington (3-3-2) at 7:00 pm.
